re. A-ha Take On Me:

Again, you are right Philip! You need not doubt yourself quite so much - trust your ears a little more!
This is essentially the same progression but the second chord is in "1st inversion" - i.e. the 3rd of the chord is at the bottom of the chord stack:
e.g. a G major triad (GBD - 1/3/5) would become (BDG - 3/5/1) in 1st inversion

You are not wrong - this IS a very standard progression.
Try "Without Or Without You" by U2 for another example. Probably a handful of tunes by Kate Bush/Tori Amos Bjork and similar, also artists like Alanis Morrisette et al. I can't be arsed to find the exact examples - if you wanna check it out go for it!

Brilliant! I'm glad you actually replied with some examples, and you are not wrong, No Woman No Cry is the same.

The other ones aren't, they might have the same chord progression/similar but only in part. The point with i'm yours is that it's the same cycle repeating itself, just like no woman no cry does.

Can you tell what the difference in melody is? What notes does bob sing, what notes does mraz sing?

explain in intervals, not notes.

I´m probably wrong, but what about Let it Be with the Beatles? maybe not the whole song through..
No woman no cry - bob marley, the chorus of A-ha - take on me, Soul to squeeze by the chili peppers?
But i´ll guess i´m wrong, as you wrote its kinda backwards...

Why do you say that the chord progression is unsual? Is got to be one of the most common progressions there is? Or am i totally off?
